To be kind, is a choice!

So, I happen to watch a movie (malayalam – Priyan Ottathilaanu) recently, which prompted me to write this blog (after a hiatus).

There’s a scene towards the end of the movie, where the male protagonist is asked by another female character as to why he’s always running and slogging for people around him, but not for himself. After a pause, he replies, back in the school days, when there would be a lemon spoon race, nobody ever tried to come first, instead everyone would try their best to not let the lemon fall from the spoon till they reach the finishing line.

Now, there’s nothing new in the movie per se. But the deployment of simile of lemon spoon race with life, stuck with me, long after the movie finished.

Any tiny little small act you can think of, which can make the person around you happy is kindness and of course it makes you happy too. Showing kindness is important because one would never know how much happiness our small act of kindness can bring to other’s lives, it may create bond, it may generates optimism and it may even make people (and us) believe world is still a nice place to live.

But sometimes, it becomes really challenging to be kind, especially when we are down or feeling stressed due to some or the other reason. Ironically, it’s actually at these moments we need to be kind to ourselves and to the people around us. When we are kinder to ourselves, it’s easier to be kind to the others.

If you are being nice and kind towards the people around you, it’s absolutely not necessary that you will get something in return from them, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be kind and nice because you want something in return. You should be kind because YOU ARE A KIND PERSON. And I would always believe that everyone has some kindness in them. It’s upto you, whether you want to show it or not. And if you do, just see what wonders it does!
